SHARING MY LOVE OF FIBRE & FOLIAGE

My name is Amanda McCorkindale and I have spent the last 18 years running a large plant nursery (with Hubby) along with creating projects from fibre in my spare time.

My great love is knitting, I’ve been knitting since I was a little girl. And with that love of wool I then had to learn to spin so that I was able to create my own fibres. That meant, of course, that I was given many fleeces to use…. and I then needed to learn how to turn dirty, smelly raw fleeces into exquisite yarns.

The next stage of my life will be ‘AMANDA’S GARDEN ROOM’

I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge of Fibre and Foliage with those who wish to expand their talents.

IN THE HEART OF THE SNOWY VALLEYS, THE GATEWAY TO AUSTRALIA'S SNOWY MOUNTAINS

At Amanda's Garden Room we will be enjoying playing with wool, knitting, crochet, felting, spinning, weaving and more. From learning new stitches, how to follow a pattern, to creating your own individual piece.

Discover how to prepare raw wool ready for spinning or felting, and learn to dye the wool before you use it for your next project.

We will crochet baskets and/or handbags from rope and wool.

We will felt gorgeous comfy slippers, as well as stylish felt bags in any shape you desire. Felt hats are very comfy and warm, and can be so colourful if you choose.

Felt bowls are always handy and stylish. And we mustn’t forget soft, colourful scarves with felt, knit and crochet. We will use felting needles to either decorate, create artwork pieces or maybe make a 3D miniature version of your favourite pet, or a wild animal.

We will be playing with fibres that include sheep wool acrylic fibres, alpaca hair, mohair and maybe fibre from plants as well.

If you have an old spinning wheel or weaving loom at home, we can bring them to life with new creations! Learn the techniques of embroidery to enhance your garments, create gifts or….Whatever!

The list of your new talents will only expand from there!!

For those with green thumbs, or perhaps not, bonsai is on the agenda at the Garden Room. It is so satisfying to create a tree which looks much older than it’s true years, tending it, trimming it and shaping it over years.

Or propagating your own plants to expand your favourite corner of the garden. Wander our gardens to choose something new or bring your own favourite cuttings or seeds.

Lessons will be suitable for beginners thru to experienced people.
